AMD has released its fourth 1 / 4 2010 financial results and also they're nice numbers to finish a year on. The actual company's revenue of $1. 65B was up two percent quarter-on-quarter and flat as compared to 2009. Despite the gross sales plateau, AMD's position has substantially improved over the past 12 months; the company reported a Q4 world wide web income of $375M for any quarter and $471M for the year.
Part of that improvement as a result of trimming costs-the company's yearly R&D expense was just $352M as compared to $432M in 2009-but any hefty chunk of
AMD's net income for that year comes courtesy of an legal settlement.
AMD evidently settled your patent dispute with a good as-yet-unknown company who paid out AMD $283 million in Q4 using apology.
What's arguably a lot more important, however, is that AMD would've ended Q4 and each one of 2010 with its operating income inside the black even if the actual $283M windfall hadn't dropped set for a visit. This was among Meyer's promises when he took control belonging to the company and the business owners on AMD's conference telephone acknowledged his contributions for the company's year-end financials.
Income in AMD's Computing Treatments Group (CPUs, motherboards) ended up flat compared year-on-year, though the graphics side of this company reported $424M in net revenue up from $390M within Q3 and $421M last year. More significantly, the layouts division's operating income went up by significantly, from $50M last year to 68M in 2010 AND BEYOND.
What's Coming In 2011
AMD needs Q1 sales to fall seasonally but only a little bit. The company slightly defeat analyst estimates when the item came in at $1. 65B now (analysts expected $1. 63). Presently, the Street expects AMD's salary to decline seven percentage in Q1, but the business expects the drop to be around four percent. The company's goal should be to maintain the same 45 percent gross margin it enjoyed in Q4, nevertheless acknowledged that new solution introductions, sharp competition coming from Intel, and its own launch schedules ensure it is hard to predict the collective impact belonging to the various factors.
AMD couldn't reveal any of their launch dates for Llano or perhaps Bulldozer, but reiterated that the items are on track whilst Brazos is shipping nicely. "AMD enters 2011 by using significant momentum, amplified with the successful launch of your first Fusion APUs, " stated Thomas Seifert, CFO along with Interim CEO. "I am confident you can easlily drive profitable growth influenced by the strength of new products you will bring to market. Our customers recognize in which Fusion APUs are along at the core of delivering the particular world's most vivid digital experiences. "
Seifert attributes the corporation's Q4 revenue gains to growth inside the graphics business thanks towards the launch of next-generation Radeon electronics, an increase in gaming system sales, and continuing robust chipset attach rates. AMD shipped an overall total of 1. 3M Brazos systems in Q4; these sales helped move the company's gross margin at the moment when declining microprocessor ASPs around more traditional areas would've compromised it.
That Other Thing That's Going on
Going in to AMD's conference call we expected this company to offer at least a hint of the key reason why it dismissed Dirk Meyer and what qualities may well search for in it's new CEO. Seifert, nevertheless, notified the conference call up that AMD wouldn't be discussing either the main reason Meyer was dismissed or perhaps providing any information on its search. According that will his statements, AMD will never comment on any aspect of your endeavor until the practice is concluded.
When a brave soul called for more details on the reason Meyer was fired, company executives would claim only that Meyer weren't fired for anything that happened recently. He then recommended every one consult AMD's statements from the other day and is apparently laboring under the misconception that the company had previously stated something clarifying or beneficial. AMD's stock price went up by after its earnings call though the BoD's refusal to make clear itself won't do anything to strengthen investor confidence. Regardless of happens, it's good to determine
AMD return to that black-we just hope the company stays that way.
